Environmental Education Action Fund

What is the WWF Environmental Education Action Fund?

Effective environmental education is about education in, about and for the environment. It doesn't reach its full potential until learners have personalised their knowledge, made decisions on how to address issues, and reflected on that action.

With this in mind WWF, in partnership with The Tindall Foundation, established the Environmental Education Action Fund (EEAF). Its aim is to support schools, environmental educators and communities who, as part of their learning, are taking hands-on action to address an environmental issue.
 

Who can apply?

Educational institutions, environmental education providers and community groups.  We do not fund individuals, Government authorities, Government agencies, or overseas organisations.

 

What kind of projects are funded?

Preference is given to projects with clearly defined learning outcomes aimed to address a specific environmental issue or issues, and with strong community support.

Projects that receive funding are those where learners:

• Participate in an action based project
• Learn through experience and participation
• Decide on why and how to get involved
• Make meaningful contributions to improving their local environment
• Involve people in their community
• Gain skills and are encouraged and supported to take future action for the environment as a result of participating

 

Please note that this fund is about taking action. There is no funding for awareness raising, landscaping/ground maintenance, eco/enviro centre buildings, overseas travel or research projects.

 

How much can I apply for?

A maximum of NZ$15,000, for a funding period of one year. Previous recipients may re-apply to consecutive funding rounds up to three years, or in some circumstances five years, but repeat funding for recipients is not guaranteed and WWF should not be considered an on-going source of funding. New applications will need to be made for each successive year.
