WWF’s Auckland Marine Matters programme aims to improve protection of Auckland’s marine enviroment by promoting a sense of guardianship amongst Aucklanders for their marine heritage.
Auckland Marine Matters supports teachers and their students to experience their marine environment, and encourages them to take action to protect it. We do this in the following ways:
• Provide curriculum-based, inquiry-driven workshops for teachers about aspects of the marine environment.
• Support schools to participate in the Experiencing Marine Reserves Programme where students are provided with exciting, hands-on learning experiences (including snorkelling) and learn the value of marine reserves through engaging in follow-up action projects.
• Offers advice to schools on marine conservation related teaching topics and how to teach them in an inquiry-based way
