Hector's and Maui's

Student-led action: school mural to save Maui's

Teaching resources about Hector's and Maui's dolphins

Maui’s and Hector’s dolphins are an engaging topic for students.

Their biology, ecology and the impact people have had on their survival as a species makes for challenging and motivating inquiry-based learning at all levels.

WWF-New Zealand offers teachers and their students a variety of curriculum-linked resources and support. There are opportunities for schools and their communities to engage on the issues surrounding Maui’s and Hector’s dolphins at a local level.

Adopt a Hector's dolphin

Of the 7270 Hector’s dolphins left in the world, more than 6000 have been ‘adopted’ – many of them by classrooms of Kiwi kids.
Adopting a Hector’s dolphin costs only NZ $30 per year. That will give your class a Hector’s mascot toy, a certificate, a poster and email updates on what is happening in WWF-New Zealand’s Hector’s and Maui’s conservation programme.

The money we raise from adoptions helps fund our work. We’re aiming high – to protect the dolphins’ future by securing a self-sustaining population that can live in its traditional range and is free of threats from human activity. Your and your students can help us achieve this goal.
