The tremendous support from New Zealand’s local councils galvanized large numbers of people to take part in 2009's event...  we are again looking for local support to reach even more Kiwis.

Earth Hour 2010

Its official! The next mass global action on climate change will be held worldwide on 27 March 2010 from 8.30pm - 9.30pm (local time)

Over half of New Zealanders voted Earth this year on 28 March 2009 by powering down for Earth Hour. To everyone who took part, WWF thanks you for helping us send an important message at a critial time.

Over 1.5 million Kiwis joined hundreds of millions of people from over 4000 cities worldwide in turning off their lights and other appliances to draw attention to the issue of climate change, which is a threat to all our futures.

WWF is asking all Governments, including ours, to take inspiration from Earth Hour when they meet to make decisons on climate change in Copenhagen in December this year. The Earth Hour message - "Vote Earth" - gives leaders a mandate to act boldly on a new global deal that protects both people and the planet. Earth Hour 2010 is shaping up to be huge, in cities all over the world. For updates on New Zealand cities taking part, and what YOU can do for Earth Hour 2010, watch this space.
